Q
What size of a heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning unit
do I need?
A
The size of the unit depends on the size of the house or
building. AIRCOR can offer assistance and recommendations
as
to what type of equipment that would be best for your
situation.

Q
Why is one room in the house too cold in the winter even if
the furnace is at its maximum output capacity? The same
room is too warm in the summer even if the air conditioner
has been running for a long period of time.
A
It may be caused by an improperly-sized furnace or air
conditioner or your duct system is not designed for the
optimal air flow to every room in the house. AIRCOR can
trouble-shoot the problem and determine if your furnace
and/or air conditioner is sufficient, as well as review the
existing ductwork for optimal air flow.
Q
WHAT IS SEER?
A
SEER is an abbreviation for season energy efficiency rating
and is a measure of how efficient a unit operates. A 13 SEER
product for example would be more efficient than a 10 SEER
unit.
Q
CAN I PLACE PLANTS AROUND MY OUTDOOR UNIT?
A
Yes, but make sure you keep clearance for proper airflow.
Q
WILL YOU REMOVE MY OLD EQUIPMENT AND DISPOSE OF IT?
A
Yes, we remove all old equipment and recover any
refrigerant according to EPA guidelines.
Q
HOW MUCH WILL A 13 SEER A/C SAVE ME OVER MY
CURRENT SYSTEM?
A
Typically most of the older units we replace have ratings of 8-
10 SEER, so you could expect savings in the 30-40% range
on your cooling bill.
Q
How often should I change my air filter?
A
That depends on the size of your air filter or if you have three
or more cats or dogs living in
the house. If you have three or more pets, we suggest
checking the air filter more frequently.

ONE INCH FILTERS: CHANGE ONCE A MONTH

4 TO 5 INCH FILTERS: CHANGE EVERY 6-12 MONTHS

ELECTRONIC AIR CLEANERS: CLEAN EVERY 1-2 MONTHS

ONE INCH ELECTROSTATIC FILTERS: CHANGE FILTERS
ONCE A MONTH
Q
My air conditioner/furnace has a white frost or ice on the
copper lines. What should I do?
A
Shut off your air conditioner, and call AIRCOR
Q
Should I turn my air conditioning off during the day if I am
not at home?
A
No, raise the setting on the thermostat a few degrees. This
will use less energy and still allow for the A/C system to
recover when you lower the thermostat to your desired
comfort level when you get home in the evening.
Q
Is there any advantage to setting my thermostat fan to "ON"
so the fan runs constantly?
A
There are a couple. One is that you get constant filtering of
the air in your home. The other is that because the air is
moving, you have a more even temperature throughout the
home.
Q
Should I cover my outdoor unit in the winter?
A
Covering your unit is not necessary. Air conditioners are
manufactured to withstand all possible climate changes. In
fact, rain helps keep your unit clean. Heat pumps run all year
long,so it is important that they should never be covered.
Q
What is the difference in a Manufacturer's Limited Warranty
and an Extended Warranty?
A
A limited warranty covers specific parts (compressor, coil,
heat exchanger, etc.); therefore, it is limited by the language
in the warranty. Extended warranties are generally purchased
in addition to the equipment. Extended warranties cover all
parts and may also include labor for the service call. An
extended warranty protects you from unexpected and
unbudgeted service calls for the duration of the warranty.
Q
Why should I replace my existing heating or air conditioning
system?
A
You may wish to consider replacing your air conditioning or
heating system if it is old, inefficient, or in need of repair.
Today's systems are as much as 50% more efficient than
those systems manufactured as little as 10 years ago. In
addition, if not properly maintained, wear and tear on a
system can reduce the actual or realized efficiency of the
system.

If you are concerned about utility bills or are faced with an
expensive repair, you may want to consider replacing your
system rather than enduring another costly season or paying
to replace an expensive component. The utility cost savings
of a new unit may provide an attractive return on your
investment.
Q
How expensive are air conditioning and heat pump systems?
A
Many factors affect the cost of a heating or air conditioning
system, including the size of your home, the type and
condition of the ductwork installed, and accessories you might
need such as a thermostat or an electronic air cleaner. We
have a complete range of systems and accessories available
to meet all your needs.
Q
What is involved in replacing an old system?
A
Aside from the replacement of the furnace equipment, Aircor will
inspect several items and make a determination of whether
or not these items need to be supplied or replaced. Some of
the items include: ductwork, insulation, refrigerant piping,
electrical service, wiring, thermostat, condensate piping, flue
piping, flue terminations, chimney liner, slabs, filter, driers,
registers, grills, drain pans, and evaporator coil.
Q
How long can I expect a new system to last?
A
If you have an Aircor qualified technician perform regular
preventative maintenance and service suggested for your
unit, industry averages suggest that an air conditioner should
last 12-15 years (sea coast applications may be less) and a
gas furnace should last as many as 20-25 years.
Q
What is covered in my warranty?
A
All Luxaire® products come with a written limited warranty on
parts. This warranty states that a replacement part will be
furnished for any part of the product that fails in normal use
and service during the applicable warranty period specified, in
accordance with the warranty's terms. An Aircor associate
can review with you the warranty periods for the products
you select.
